Summary:

Excluding the plastic from land fills, over 10 million tonnes of plastic pollution ends up in the environment every year. It is estimated that 50% of plastic is single use. Plastic waste harms marine animals by exposing them to microplastics and impacting the health of sea life. Out of the 1.3 billion tonnes of waste produced each year, plastic pollution accounts for 10% of it. In developed nations, virtually all plastic is collected but just five countries in Asia (Thailand, China, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines) are dumping more plastic into the ocean than the rest of the world combined.
