The future of business leadership: Old-school micromanagers need not apply

The COVID-19 pandemic has made many CEOs realize that the top-down micromanager approach would not work. Employees want to work with executives who are more caring and people-focused. A survey conducted on 1700 busuiness professionals in 70 countries found that before COVID-19, 13% of people ranked resilience as a top-three leadership characteristic, but now 34% do. Pre-pandemic, 74% of participants stated that ledership was the most important characteristics, after the pandemic, this amount dropped to 68% . Arelene Dickinson, CEO of Venture Communications and a judge of Dragon’s Den believes that the pandemic has higlighted that empathy will be one of the most critical leadership qualties going forward and that more women leaders will arise from this crissis as they tend to be more empathetic. As the pandemic has created uncertainties for many employees, they are now putting more value into leaders who are more transparent and authentic.
